Description
The new CD 6 SE may be our entry CD player but it’s based on the same platform as its higher priced siblings, using our latest SE (Servo Evolution) technology. It can be factory upgraded to either a CD 8 SE or CD Xt SE at any point in the future should you at some stage want more from your system.
The entire SE range of Cyrus CD players has attracted many awards from the Hi Fi press, but the CD 6 SE holds what is arguably the most coveted, and is the current What Hi Fi CD product of the year.
“It’s a revelation. Quite simply this player is astonishing. Not astonishing for the price, you understand, but astonishing: full stop.” What Hi Fi – Sept 2008

More Details
The SE platform
Inside all CD players is a CD Engine, consisting of servos and lasers, which spins the disc and positions the laser to track the disc and read the data on it. Until now hi-fi CD players have been based around laser / servo parts designed for the mass market. Even high-end designers do this because they are readily available and because it’s very complex to design your own. However these kits of parts are primarily designed for low cost mass produced equipment like potable audio players.
Recognising this as the biggest barrier to high audio quality, Cyrus spent 18 months developing its own ‘made for high-end audio’ CD engine, which we have called our Servo Evolution platform, or SE for short.
Technically this has resulted in an engine that produces 20% fewer data errors than the engine used in Cyrus’s previous range of award winning CD players. This right first time ability leads to less error correction, which means the servo motors work less hard, which reduces power supply ripple.
Sonically, the results are breathtaking, and the clamour of approval from the hi fi press has resulted in numerous award for the entire SE range.
Key Features
The CD 6 SE benefits from the same high specification 24bit differential DAC as the CD 8 SE (although not in a fully balanced topology) and shares much of the CD 8 SE power supply technology (but with a single power transformer, rather than the twin transformer design of the CD 8 SE). The performance of the resulting player has far exceeded our expectations, and is the perfect partner for the highly-rated Cyrus 6 XP amplifier.
Other key features are:
Includes a re-clocking circuit located at the DAC threshold to maximise jitter rejection.
High-grade toroidal transformer with two separate secondary windings, providing completely isolated power supplies for the differing power requirements of the digital and analogue sections. 11 further stages of power regulation.
Twin analogue audio outputs and an optical digital output.
Full upgrade path to any of the SE models.
MC-Bus connectivity allows the unit to talk intelligently to other connected Cyrus units, automatically switching to the appropriate configuration with the touch of just one button.
High quality magnesium die-cast enclosure, which delivers a myriad of advantages both electrically and mechanically. The non-resonant nature of the alloy minimises microphonic effects, while its non-ferrous composition provides an effective shield from external RF disturbances. This also eliminates coupling of the power transformer stray magnetic fields to the sensitive audio circuitry. Lower cost steel enclosures do not offer these benefits.
